Vesakhi 2009

Vesakhi Mela 2009

19 April 2009: Vesakhi Mela 2009 was a huge success, with an estimated 10,000 people attending! It was a fun-filled day for everyone and there was lots to do. As with every year, the Carnival Games and the Children's Corner was a hit with adults and children alike; there were food stalls selling all sorts of delicacies, as well as Cultural Shows, the SKA Idols finals and Grand Lucky Draws! Organisers were pleased to note that the Mela also attracted a large number of non-Punjabi visitors - showing that the Mela is indeed a community event for all Singaporeans.

PresidentThis year, the Guest-of-Honour was His Excellency, S.R. Nathan, President of Singapore. The public at large had the opportunity to meet the President and a lucky few also took photographs with him.

The festivities also included performances by local talents as well as the most prominent vocalist of recent times from the UK, Manak-E. Lut ke Gayee, was the biggest bhangra track of 2008.
