1. DIWALI DI RAAT

The Diwali Di Raat was held on 25 Oct 2003 at SKA grounds. The aim of the function was to celebrate the festival of light and to foster Esprit de crops among the members and their invited guests.

The show was organised by the SKA Cultural and Social Committee . The members and guest were entertained by singers and Dancers from “Taal”, Dhol Buster by Sarder Kuldip Singh, the DJ from RMC entertainment group, Bhangra Dance from Kohinoor and Stage games organized by our Master of Ceremony Sardar Dalbeer Singh.

 

2. 57th Annual AGM held on 23rd August 2003

A record number of 470 members took part in the 57th Annual AGM held on 23rd August 2003 at SKA function hall. The election chairman was Gurdip Singh Usma.

Six candidates’ posts had been unopposed. These were

  • Chairman Sports,
  • Chairman Culture,
  • Chairman Publication,
  • Chairman Education,
  • Chairman Building & Facilities
  • Chairman Young Khalsa.

 

3. GURDWARA CUP 2003

SKA sent a contingent of over 60 sportsmen, sportswomen and officials to participate in the 52th Gurdwara cup games held in Kuala Lumpur from 4 December 03 to 7 December 03. The games that were played include Hockey, Soccer and Netball. The Contingent was lead by Chef De Mission, Mr Sarjit Singh Sona.

The performance of our teams was generally as expected. The netball team emerged runner up and Soccer team was placed third. The hockey team was unplaced. The overall Champion of the games was Federal Territory.

There was no injury reported to our players during the games and the contingent was generally happy with the arrangements. We received good feedback from the netball players and their parents which we will bring up for discussion in our next meeting.

Mr Harbhajan Singh was awarded the Sports Personalities award for recognition at national level.

4. D&D 2003

The SKA Ladies Wing Dinner & Dance was held on the 16th of August 2003 with the theme ‘Bollywood Queens’. 270 ladies attended the event. It was an evening filled with music and dance.

Taal singers, Hardev and Chandan accompanied by their dancers kicked-off the evening with hits from various Punjabi and Hindi albums, followed by sumptuous of North Indian Buffet dinner was served. A fashion show by Isqh with their latest Indo-western collections, games, a lucky draw and the crowning of Ms Baljeet as the Bollywood Queen were also the programs for the evening. But the highlight was the performance by Mr Nages from Sitara who impersonated Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor with songs from the Oldies. The evening ended with disco music provided by Mastana which drew some ladies to the floor to dance the night away. Indeed, it was an evening full of entertainment.

5. Professional Networking Group @ SKA

Inaugural Lunch Meeting (29th November 1-3pm)

The response for this lunch talk was excellent. We had 69 attendees including 10 students from NTU and NUS. The session started at1pm with a lively networking session of those attending. President Balbeer Singh Mangat gave a welcoming address at 2pm.This was followed by a sumptuous Buffet Lunch.

The speaker for this inaugural lunch was our very own Prof. Dr Kirpal Singh who teaches Creative Thinking at the Singapore Management University (SMU). He spoke on “Meeting The Challenges of The Third Millennium: Changing mind sets.’’ It was a very inspiring speech and Prof Kirpal despite the short time allocated, managed to cover a wide area of challenges to be faced by our community in the forthcoming years. He addressed challenges in the social and cultural arena. He also highlighted challenges to be brought about by quantum changes in the fields of technology and the biosciences. He encouraged members in our community to give thought to these new challenges and adapt as to successfully meet these challenges as our forefathers had done.

Mr Kaka Singh thanked the speaker and presented him with a memento from SKA. The meeting ended promptly at 3pm after a question and answer session

6. SINGAPORE HARMONY SOCCER 2003

SKA organise the first Singapore Harmony Soccer Tournament held on 14 September 2003 at the SKA Turf. IA ground and SCRC field. A record number of fifty teams took part in the tournament. The objective of the event was to

  1. Promote goodwill and the game of Soccer
  2. Foster better relationship through this friendly competition
  3. Contributions towards making racial and religious harmony a way of life in Singapore.

The tournament was sponsored by Alkaline, Balwin Exporters, Civic Ambulance, FTMS and Mohar Shipping.

 

7. TEEYAN

Last Year Teeyan was celebrate on the 9th August 2003 in conjunction with the National Day.

Ladies turned up for the event and participated in Gidda and folk songs. Finger food was served and the occasion ended by the ladies cutting the National Day cake sponsored by Past President Jagjit Singh Sekhon.

 

8. Dialogue Session with Mr Tharman

Dialogue Session with Senior Minister of State for Education, Trade and Industry, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam 23 January 2003, SKA 2nd Floor.

Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam Participated in a lively dialogue session with members of Sikh Community on the changes in the Singapore Education System. Organised by Young Khalsa the event was held on 23 January and attracted about 60 participants. The theme was "The Future of Singapore Education".

Explaining that Singapore Education is set to witness a major shake-up leading to creation of a less structured education system.
