Professional Networking Group

Last year was indeed an eventful, exciting and rewarding one for all of us. We met most of the objectives that we laid out for ourselves, and feel proud that our Committee contributed towards making a difference for the ladies of our community. Of the events that we organized, four are worthy of mention.

Firstly, we successful organized Shawa Punjabaney, a fund-raising walk in conjunction with the International Women's Day on the 7 March 2008. The event was a huge success, with over 550 ladies participating in the event. The aims of this project were to raise funds for:

  • The Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) a self-funding voluntary organization that enhance the health and quality of life of cancer patients, and
  • The Singapore Sikh Education Foundation (SSEF) that conducts Punjabi language classes for our children and works with the Singapore Sikh Welfare Council (SWC) to provide assistance to needy families.
Secondly, since its inception last year, the Chair Yoga sessions continue to be held regularly twice a week at the Khalsa Dharmak Sabha (KDS). The sessions continue to be well-attended, and the Committee intends to explore broadening this project to include other well-being activities. Thirdly, the Committee organized the Festival of Teeyan on 10 August 2008 at the SKA. The event was well-received by our ladies who enjoyed partaking in the various activities associated with the tradition of Teeyan. A record number of 300 ladies attended the event. And finally, the Punjabi culture on 29 March 2008 at the ACM Auditorium. The exhibition sought to raise awareness of the Punjabi culture to members of the public.
