Young Khalsa League 2007The event was kicked off on 11th March 2007. A total 27 Teams participated in 4th Young Khalsa League 2007. 400 members and participants were present to witness the opening ceremony. The games were played on weekends and on Public Holidays. The games were enthusiastically supported by the parents/family members of the young players. The finals of the knock out were played on 15th April 2007. A crowd of 500 members were present and the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Jagjit Singh Sekhon, Immediate Past President, Singapore gave away the prizes to the winners.
Vesakhi Mela 2007
Vesakhi Mela (fair) was held on Sunday, 22nd April 2007 at the Singapore Khalsa Association. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Second Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts was the Guest-of-honour. The theme of the Mela was "Forging Family Values in our Multi-Racial Society". This theme is in concert with the aim of further enhancing family values in Singapore's multi-racial environment. It was open to all communities with highlights on sports from 8 am onwards followed by fun-fair, food stalls, tele-matches, tug-of-war, SKA Idol finals and many other Sikh cultural events in the afternoon. The Organising Committee has specially invited a well known Punjabi Bhangra Troupe from India for this special occasion. The stage event commenced at approx. 1.15 pm after the opening ceremony. The cultural items included folk songs, competitions i.e. longest hair, turban tying, longest beard etc and were well received and participation was very good. The grand finale was the SKA Idol / Talent Search 2007 which was open to all races and it was enjoyed by the spectators and the Guest of Honour. Children's fun-fair game, Kids club, rides was organised. As part of caring and sharing, we invited the "Down Syndrome" children to participate in some of the games, colouring contest and activities. Telematches was organised for families' participation. Photo exhibition was held at level 1 tracing the history evolution of the SKA. The heritage corner also showcased the making of butter, spinning of cotton yarn, making of a typical Manjah (bed) and weaving of Dariyai and Naleh (Cotton Bed or Floor Spreads). The ever popular Mehndi art corner was also set up showing the traditional and modern way of applying mehndi artwork. Some of the items on display were specially brought from India and great effort was put in by the SKA Ladies Wing members to show some of our handicrafts.
